Fire Department
The Metamora Fire Department was founded in 1889. The Department is staffed 24/7/365 by volunteers dedicated to the preservation of the lives and property of all they serve. The Village of Metamora Fire Department runs approximately 325+ calls per year out of one firehouse covering approximately forty-seven square miles and over six thousand citizens including the Village of Metamora and rural residents.
The department is part of MABAS Division 33 [Mutual Aid Box Alarm System] which means they can be deployed anywhere in the state, and by agreements with other states, the department can be deployed to anywhere in the United States. In times of major disasters like tornadoes, floods, or large fires the department can also call on MABAS for help. The department runs two engines, one of which is heavy rescue, two brush trucks, and one tender truck. The Metamora Fire Department also provides auto aid to the Washburn Fire Department and the Roanoke Fire Department from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Water & Sewer Department
Village staff is responsible for the treatment, distribution, and maintenance of the water system. The Village relies on three groundwater wells for water to be treated at the treatment plant. From the treatment plant, water is pumped into the water distribution system for Village residents and businesses.
For wastewater, the Village utilizes a lagoon system for its wastewater treatment which uses multiple wastewater lift stations. The Village staff is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the wastewater collection system, lift stations, and lagoons. The Village water and sewer department works tirelessly to ensure the public health and safety of all who use water within the Village.

Street Department
The Metamora Street Department is responsible for maintaining the public infrastructure within the Village of Metamora which includes public streets, alleys, buildings, streetlights, sidewalks, and storm sewer system. This department ensures the Village of Metamora remains functional and clean throughout each season. Brush and yard waste pickup is provided to residents seasonally, as well as leaf pickup in autumn. You can find more information regarding yard waste pickup and access to our Organic Yard Waste Facility for yard waste drop-off below.
Yard Waste
Monthly Brush Pickup – Brush Pickup is provided during the months of April through November starting the first week of each month. Excluding weeks when a holiday falls on the Monday of the first full week. In that case it would push pick up to the second full week. To have brush picked up you must follow the rules listed via the link below.
Leaf Vacuum Pickup – Leaf Pickup is provided during the fall months while the leaves are falling. The leaf vacuum will be on constant route rotation during the collection season. Due to the nature of the collection, it is difficult to establish exact collection days for the residents. It is not necessary to contact the village to arrange for collection. To facilitate the quick removal of leaf piles, the rules listed via the link below are in place.
Motor Fuel Tax (MFT)
As part of State tax allocations, all municipalities, townships, and counties receive monthly distributions from the Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) program. The Village of Metamora receives its share of the MFT revenues in monthly allotments that total to an average $170,000 dollars per year. Each year, Village Public Works and Engineering staff assess the condition of all Village streets to determine how best to utilize these funds. Once street maintenance targets have been identified, program documents are prepared and submitted to IDOT for approval. Upon IDOT approval, the Village either spends funds directly or utilizes subcontractors for maintenance materials and operations within the public Right-of-Way. The yearly maintenance of our streets utilizes both these MFT funds and general funds to keep our streets in good condition.
Sidewalk Improvements
The Street Department holds a listing of sidewalk improvements that they work from, as issues arise through the seasons, this list changes.
If you know of or have a sidewalk that needs improvements, please reach out to Jason Jones.
Snow Removal
The Street and over all Public Works Department handles all snow removal and salting on Village owned roads. There is a parking ban that goes into effect on all Village streets after 2” of snowfall to allow for proper snow removal.
