Chapter 15.40 HOUSING STANDARDS
15.40.324 Artificial lighting.
Every dwelling unit within three hundred feet of a power
source shall be supplied with electrical power as follows:
A. Habitable Room. Every habitable room shall contain at
least two separate floor or wall-type electrical convenience outlets, or one
such convenience outlet and one supplied ceiling type electrical light fixture.
Every kitchen or kitchen area shall contain at least three separate floor or
wall-type electrical convenience outlets, or two such convenience outlets and
one supplied ceiling type electrical light fixture.
B. Bathrooms and Utility Rooms. Every water closet
compartment, bathroom, laundry room and furnace room, shall contain at least one
supplied ceiling or wall-type electrical light fixture and at least one separate
wall-type electric convenience outlet.
C. Public and Common Halls and Stairways. Every public or
common hall in a dwelling unit shall contain at least one supplied ceiling or
wall-type electric light fixture. Two-family dwellings, multi-family dwellings,
and rooming houses which have common or public halls and stairways shall have
them adequately lighted at all times, except that in a two-family dwelling an
adequate lighting system which may be turned on when needed by conveniently
located light switches shall be permitted instead of a full time lighting
system.
D. Standards for Installation. Every outlet and fixture shall
be properly installed and maintained in good and safe working condition. (Ord.
