10.88.030 Use of highways.

A. It is unlawful for any person to operate a snowmobile on any highway within the village, except those designated below:
1. Progress Street from the west village limit line to Washington Street;
2. Washington Street from Partridge Street to the north village limit line;
3. Chatham Street from Washington Street to Prairie Street;
4. Prairie Street from Chatham Street to Partridge Street, and from Locust Street to the south village limit line;
5. Partridge Street from Washington Street to Hancock Street, from Morgan Street to Prairie Street, and from Prairie Street to the east village limit line;
6. Locust Street from Hancock Street to Prairie Street;
7. Hancock Street from Locust Street to Partridge Street;
8. Morgan Street from Locust Street to Partridge Street;
9. Hanover Street from Locust Street to Pine Street;
10. Pine Street from Hanover Street to Frances Street;
11. Frances Street from Pine Street to the south village limit line;
12. Douglas Street from Progress Street to the south village limit line;
13. Weidman Street from its intersection with Illinois Route 89 to the north village limit line;
14. Any street except those coinciding with Illinois Routes 89 or 116, in order to travel from one’s residence to one of the streets designated in subdivisions 1 through 13 of this subsection, or vice versa, provided the shortest possible route is taken;
15. Any street except those coinciding with Illinois Routes 89 or 116, in order to travel to a service station or commercial garage for service or fuel only, provided the shortest possible route is taken.
B. It is unlawful for any person to operate a snowmobile on any highway designated in subdivisions 1 through 13 of subsection A of this section for any purpose other than leaving from or returning to the village. All recreational use of highways by operators of snowmobiles within the village is strictly prohibited.
C. All persons operating snowmobiles on highways as authorized in this section shall travel on the roadway in the same direction as traffic, as near to the right side of the roadway as possible, and at a speed not to exceed twenty miles per hour.
D. All persons operating snowmobiles on highways as authorized in this section shall cross other highways at an angle of approximately ninety degrees to the direction of the other highway, and before crossing shall bring the snowmobile to a complete stop and shall yield the right-of-way to all oncoming traffic which constitutes a hazard.
E. By the enactment of the ordinance codified in this section, the village does not mean to suggest or imply that the use for snowmobile purposes of highways outside but adjacent to the village limit lines is permitted under law. (Ord. 1982-2 § 3, 1982)
