Chapter 10.72 ABANDONED VEHICLES
10.72.030 Form of notice.
A. Whenever the abandoned vehicle displays current license
plates or other registration enabling the identification of the owner, the
village police shall so identify the owner by consulting with appropriate
agencies, and any required notice shall be served on the owner by certified or
registered mail.
B. Whenever the abandoned vehicle does not display current
license plates or other registration enabling the identification of the owner,
any required notice shall be posted in a prominent location on the
vehicle.
C. Any required notice shall contain at least the following
information:
1. The name of the village of Metamora;
2. The signature of the police officer issuing the
notice;
3. The date the notice is mailed or posted;
4. A description of the vehicle;
5. The legal and factual basis for the presumption of
abandonment;
6. The place, date and time of the hearing;
7. In the case of a notice issued before removal by towing, a
statement that if the vehicle is found to be abandoned, its removal by towing
will be authorized;
8. In the case of a notice issued after removal by towing, a
statement that if the vehicle is found to be abandoned, the owner will be
responsible for towing and storage charges. (Ord. 1979-12 § 3,
