Chapter 6.16 RABIES CONTROL
6.16.090 Redemption of dogs confined for observation.
A. An owner may redeem any dog confined for observation with
a licensed veterinarian under the provisions of this chapter within seven days
after the confinement period has expired by paying to the veterinarian the costs
incurred during the confinement period, and the cost of any necessary license if
the dog was unlicensed, and the cost of an inoculation against rabies if the
owner cannot prove the dog has been properly inoculated as required by Section
6.16.010.
B. If the owner does not redeem the dog within the time
specified in subsection A of this section, then any person may redeem it by
making like payments.
C. If the dog is not redeemed as set forth in this section,
it shall be destroyed in a humane manner, and any unpaid costs incurred by a
licensed veterinarian in compliance with this chapter shall be paid to the
veterinarian by the village in an amount not to exceed twenty-five dollars upon
receipt by the village of an itemized bill setting forth those costs. (Ord.
