It shall be the duty of the village attorney to be the legal advisor of all the officers of the village and when directed or requested by the proper officer of officers of the village to draw or pass upon all ordinances, leases, deeds, contracts or other legal documents or papers pertaining to matters affecting the village. He shall also, when directed or requested by the proper officer or officers of the village, prosecute or defend, as the case may be, on behalf of the village, all cases in which the village may in any manner be interested or involved; and he shall do and render such other legal services as may be required of him by the proper officer or officers of the village.
